John Cullen
Dr. John P. Cullen serves as the Strategic Director of Population Health for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Rochester Medical Center. With a PhD in cardiovascular pharmacology from Queen’s University of Belfast, Dr. Cullen spent 15 years as an NIH-funded researcher studying both basic and clinical aspects of cardiovascular disease. Since joining the University of Rochester Susan B. Anthony Center in 2014, he has held several leadership roles, including Interim Director from 2024–2025, and contributes to national initiatives through the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Women in Medicine and Science. He currently leads community engagement efforts at CTSI and conducts research focused on increasing vaccine confidence in rural populations, as well as studying how bruising documentation impacts the ability of interpersonal violence victims to secure protection orders.

Holly Russell
Dr. Holly A. Russell is a Board-Certified physician in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine and serves as the Director of Opioid Safety at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is also the founder and director of the Addiction Medicine program at Highland Family Medicine and the Medical Director at Delphi Rise, a community-based substance use treatment program. Dr. Russell earned her M.D. with Distinction in Community Service from the University of Rochester and completed residency in Family Medicine with a research focus at Lancaster General Hospital. Her early experience with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, coupled with advanced training through a faculty development fellowship and a Master’s in Clinical Investigation, informs her patient-centered approach to addressing addiction and advancing public health.
